I’ve always said “good music is good music,” meaning that, even if I don’t like it, I can recognize that the artist still has talent. Writing a song is hard. Believe me, I’ve written many crappy ones. It’s okay if one person on the planet doesn’t like ZZ Top. There might be others out there, too! Please continue this apparent Google search for “ZZ Top sucks” to weed out all ZZ Top haters! Fight the good fight!

One of the greatest examples is Jimi Hendrix’s style, specifically think of his roaming 1969 performance of the National Anthem at the festival to begin all festivals. You want to know where he got this style? Billy Gibbons the frontman for ZZ Top. You can even go hear Gibbons playing just like that in his pre-ZZ Top “Moving Sidewalks” album.

Hendrix has even cited Billy as one of his main influences, they hung out and jammed together because he knew Billy’s style was new and amazing. Sure, ZZ Top became pretty poppy after the 70’s, but you still need to respect the fact that they set some of the standard riff progressions and solo-styles used by most guitar artists today.

@Escapefromsane – you may be onto something. I never imagined ZZ Top would elicit such strong emotions. I’ll think twice next time before I rip them.
